It can be hard to know what to say when you or someone you care about is dealing with cancer. But maybe it’s better to try to say something, however clumsy, however inadequate, than to say nothing at all. Share these poems and images to let others know you’re thinking of them or to let them know how you’re doing. Try creating your own poem or message to capture how you feel.

We will be adding creative prompts to the One Stage At A Time site to get you started. These are digital workshop exercises and suggestions to spark your creativity. Why not send us what you’ve written as we will be publishing a selection of work received on the site? Just email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Why not send it to someone who you think would appreciate knowing how you feel? Just click on the options below to get writing.
Send a postcard to a friend
We often send postcards when we go on holiday to say ‘here’s me in the sun, look at the wonderful time I’m having.’ Dealing with cancer can sometimes feel like the opposite of this. Yet amongst the fear and anxiety, there is also a hard won appreciation of the beauty and joy that life offers. Send one of our digital postcards to someone you care about to let them know how you’re doing, to show them you care, and to make them smile.
